Maybe each of us has noticed dry skin on our face and hands, which itches and gets on our nerves.

In the vast majority of cases dry skin is not a serious health disorder. It is commonly associated with environmental factors, aging and using certain detergents. However it's worth improving your skin's condition as heavy skin dryness can lead to cracking and infection.

Review soaps, detergents and your favorite skin care products. Some (or all) of them may be the culprits of your rough, red and itchy skin because of aromatizing agents, retinoids and the alcohol content.

Hot, windy and cold weather can also cause xerosis (the medical name used for the dry skin problem).

If you perform your physical activity in the swimming pool, you may notice that your skin is dryer and more scaly after your water training. The reason is that swimming pools usually contain chlorinated water. That's why it is necessary to wash off this chemical with clean water and hypoallergenic soap as soon as possible.

Having a shower or bath that is too hot can also worsen your dry skin. Try to use warm, but not hot water and cut down your shower time to 10 minutes.

#3. Look for a home humidifier – by moisturizing the air in your house or flat, you can alleviate symptoms of xerosis.

#4. Improve your diet – specialists claim that the damaged cells of your dry skin can be restored faster if you add antioxidant-rich foods like tomatoes, berries and carrots to your eating routine. It was also found that omega-3 fatty acids can help maintain skin hydration and prevent the development of xerosis. You can find essential fats in salmon, tuna and flaxseed oil.
