As simple as it might seem, drinking one or two 6 oz. glasses of water after waking up, before breakfast, can help you ward off or alleviate many health problems.

During sleep, the body enters maintenance mode. The brain instructs the organs and tissues in the body to start repairs on the damage suffered during waking time. This is also why enough sleep is so important in maintaining a healthy body. As with any construction site, these repairs produce residue, aka garbage.

The garbage is collected by the bloodstream and transported to the colon, to be evacuated later with the rest of the fecal matter (aka poop). When you wake up, the body will divert some of the water from the tissues into the colon, to help flush out the garbage accumulated during the previous night’s repairs.

And here’s where drinking some water at room temperature will help your body get rid of those toxins. The right way to do this is to drink one or two 6 oz. glasses of water at room temperature shortly after you wake up.

It is very important for the water to be at room temperature. Do not drink cold water, because it could have adverse effects. Also, wait at least 45 minutes before having breakfast, or you won’t get the right results.

The water you drink after waking up will go almost directly into the colon, helping it flush all the toxins transported to it during the night and, thus, helping you have the first bowel movement of the day.

It is worth mentioning that you should also not drink any liquids during or immediately after breakfast. Give your body at least 20 minutes after breakfast to properly start the digestion process. And when you do drink something, it should not be a cold beverage, but something at room temperature or warmer.

Scientists have shown that drinking water after waking up can help alleviate or even prevent problems like various aches, arthritis, heart problems, epilepsy, obesity, tuberculosis, meningitis, kidney disease, vomiting, gastritis, diabetes, constipation, uterine disease, and ear and throat disease.
