Nowadays everyone talks only about mindfulness. What it is? This is exactly what you need to get rid of stress and find peace of mind. Jon Kabat-Zinn more than 30 years ago developed a therapeutic meditation practice – Mindful Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). “Pay attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally.”

BetterMe App helps women achieve their body goals with ease and efficiency by helping to choose proper meal plans and effective workouts.

Through the practice of mindfulness, you pay attention to breathing to focus on the here and now. The goal of this practice is to get rid of anxious thoughts and emotions and be able to observe them without reacting to them. This is exactly what every person dreams about.

Moreover, the practice of mindfulness can help both you and your children. It helps children to get rid of anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, depression and stress. However, how can you explain to small children what is mindfulness? Dr. Amy Saltzman, a holistic physician and mindfulness coach in Menlo Park, California, does not confuse children, explaining the term to them, but tries to help them find their “quiet place”.

The practice for children begins with paying attention to breath. “The feeling of the expansion of the in-breath, the stillness between the in-breath and the out-breath. I invite them to rest in the space between the breaths. Then I explain that this still quiet place is always with us—when we’re sad, when we’re angry, excited, happy, frustrated. They can feel it in their bodies. And it becomes a felt experience of awareness. They can learn to observe their thoughts and feelings, and the biggest thing for me is they can begin to choose their behaviors,” says Amy Saltzman.

Take just a few minutes out of each day to bring yourself to a state of calm and wellness and balance your life using a combination of guided meditations and mindfulness techniques. The techniques are a simple, practical relaxation method for anyone.

Moreover, Dr. Saltzman and her colleagues conducted a study where they found that after 8 weeks of mindfulness practice, children from the 4th to the 6th grade got lower anxiety and improved attention. They were less emotionally reactive and more able to handle daily challenges and choose their behavior.

What about teenagers? The fact is, studies of mindfulness practice for children and teenagers are just starting to gain momentum and prove their effectiveness. However, some of these studies have already proven that mindfulness practice is especially useful for children who are suffering from anxiety and ADHD.

“Teens benefit tremendously. Kids talk about their lives being transformed. I remember one girl with ADD who’d been very depressed and I didn’t think we were reaching her. On the last day of class she came in and said, ‘everything is different. I was really depressed. My boyfriend broke up with me and it’s been so hard but I’m finally understanding that I’m not my thoughts.’ That concept is huge—the non-identifying with the negative thoughts and having a little more space and freedom in the midst of it,” says Diana Winston, author of Wide Awake and the Director of Mindfulness Education at UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center.

Everyone probably understands that the most important thing for every teenager is emotional regulation. And the most interesting or even the most important thing is that the practice of mindfulness copes with this task one hundred percent, helping teenagers calm their mind and get rid of stress and anxious thoughts.

The fact is, when your child will learn to cope with anxiety, he will also easily cope with other problems. We think that you know that recently it seems to all that our society is out of control and education has also got out of control, and this mindfulness practice can help to cope with all these seemingly “difficult tasks”. Just teach your child to practice mindfulness, and you will really see how he will begin to change and how it becomes easier for him to cope with these “difficult tasks”.
